At a weak point yesterday morning after a busy few weeks, a long stretch of study, visitors, demands from others and illness I prayed “Lord guide my footsteps today.”

Gradually the burdens started to lift and he re-arranged my timetable. I was back in touch with old friends who have drifted and he nudged me to let go of pursuing some others. I felt it was time to see the doctor after weeks of feeling under the weather but struggling to carry on. The appointment was made for half and hour’s time and antibiotics were prescribed for sinusitis and an ear infection (explains the crushing pain I’ve been battling with.) With no time to see a doctor I’ve been self-medicating to no avail.

The Lord ALWAYS knows what we need, even when we take matters into our own hands. He knows when we sit and when we rise. Even if I settle on the far side of the sea, as my favourite Psalm says, there he guides us. So today, feeling weak still but better, my prayer  is “Lord, guide my footsteps today and every day.”

I’ve decided to pray this prayer for at least a week and see where it takes me. I tried it before for some days and the results were phenomenal. How it is that we forget to pray prayers like these? How is it that we catapult ourselves into the day and get to the end wondering what happened?

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
