Listening to some amazing worship this morning over a coffee I found myself thinking that as we begin to understand God’s greatness and power, we realise that everything we are is through him. The greater he is in our understanding of this awesome God, the more we should be drawn to servanthood.

I was reminded of Jesus’ words “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” As I thought about the woman who washed Jesus’ feet and anointed them with oil and Jesus washing the disciples’ feet I thought about the connections throughout the bible with servant leadership and Jesus’ commands to put yourself last, not first in terms of kingdom thinking.

It is the world’s thinking turned on it’s head and poured out to the lost, the needy, the abused, the abandoned, the desolate and the desperate. The global suicide rate is twice as high as the global homicide rate. There is a world of souls lost and broken and if we can’t reach out to bring God’s love into their pain then where is the hope for the world?

Are we ready to be servants? To be the least? To be the last?
